Last Friday I attended a tour of Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. I am sad to say that I did not know what this organization did prior to taking the tour, even though I am a native Orlandoan. Did you know that they provide food to over 500 partners including Meals On Wheels, Girls / Boys Clubs, churches, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, etc.? Did you know that 47% of their clients are children, 20% of the households served have at least one member age 6r or older, or 33% of households served have at least one working adult?
It is inconceivable to me that a place such as Orlando, FL has children that go to bed hungry. This is definitely an organization that I want to be involved with and help. I would love to figure out a way to help these families feed their pets. It could help cut down the number of animals that are surrendered to shelters because the family cannot afford to feed them.
I would urge you to take their Food For Thought tour and see this wonderful organization for yourself.
